HOW TO USE AI FOR YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA
There has been a lot of talk lately about AI. With ChatGPT blowing up, it seems like anyone and everyone is trying to get a piece of the AI pie. Freelancers are wondering if AI is coming for their jobs. And business owners are wondering if they can do more with less time. As an SMM, I have my own feelings about AI, specifically using AI for social media content creation.
You might expect me to say I hate AI, but then you’d be surprised, cowgirl. AI can benefit your social media content, but let’s get a little deeper into how using AI for social media can help and hurt you.
👍🏻 Pro: It can decrease the time it takes to create content.
Using AI for content generation is probably one of the obvious ways to use it, and it’s also the trickiest. AI can write social media captions, blogs, emails, and more which can help relieve the pressure to do it all.
On the flip side, though, I don’t reco simply copying and pasting a caption that AI writes on social media. It can contain inaccurate information, lack your brand voice, and it’s likely to be pretty surface-level.
👎🏻 Con: AI doesn’t replace your unique take, personality, or authenticity.
Honestly, this is a pro and a con. However, as far as using AI for social media, it can be a con if you’re hoping AI will completely take over social media management for you.
However, only you can make personal connections with your audience. Only you can show up authentically for the people you serve. In a comforting way, you can rest assured that AI can’t replace you.
👍🏻 Pro: It can help you generate new ideas when you’re feeling stuck.
One of my fav ways to use AI for social media is generating ideas. Sometimes my brain is struggling to come up with something new and fresh, and a quick prompt in ChatGPT will produce more ideas than I could ever need.
You don’t even have to use the ideas that ChatGPT populates, but looking over the list can get your brain moving in the right direction.
👎🏻 Con: AI is not a professional in your field.
AI looks really smart because it can push out a lot of information. But all this info is coming from content that already exists. All that is to say, AI isn’t actually a professional; it’s just great at scanning and summarizing information.
Therefore, when using AI for social media, don’t expect it to create a strategic content that fits your goals and niche. That would be a big ask. ChatGPT isn’t an expert in your niche or your business.
👍🏻 Pro: It can help you better understand your audience.
Like I just mentioned, AI is great at scanning and summarizing information, which actually makes it a great tool for gathering data about your audience. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to identify common struggles of entrepreneurs or common questions that someone in your niche might have.
This information can actually help you write better copy and create better content for your audience.
👎🏻 Con: AI doesn't understand context, and it can’t relate to humans.
Like everything with AI, however, you should take the output with a grain of salt. AKA don’t believe everything you read on the internet and always fact-check ChatGPTs output.
At the end of the day, AI is artificial. It’s not human. It doesn’t understand the context of conversations, and it surely can’t relate and understand your audience like you can.
