WHY YOU ARE NOT MAKING SALES ON INSTAGRAM

Sometimes I get *frantic* inquiries from biz owners who are at their wits end. They are dying for a 1:1 call because they aren’t generating the types of leads and revenue they want to. They are putting in tons of time and energy into Instagram, but their sales on Instagram don’t show it.

It’s easy to blame the algorithm or not enough followers, but girl, that’s rarely the problem. The truth is, Instagram is no genie in a bottle. And it’s not a last-ditch marketing effort. Instagram has to work in conjunction with all the other marketing efforts you make.

Here are things that can hold you back from making sales on Instagram —>

#1 YOUR BRANDING IS OUTDATED

That photo you took 5 years ago? Your brand aesthetic that is long since outdated? Yeah, it’s got to go. I could go on for hours about why you need an updated brand and product photography, but I’ll give you the gist.

A brand showcases who you are and what you do. If it’s not current, how can you expect to attract your ideal customers? Plus, the world is full of people who do exactly what you do. Ya gotta stand out, cowgirl.

#2 YOUR WEBSITE IS HARD TO NAVIGATE

A big reason people lose sales on Instagram is because of their website. You’re likely directing people to a services page or blog post from your IG. But if people get to your website and it’s not mobile-friendly, or it’s difficult to read – they’re gonna bounce.

Check your website on multiple devices to make sure it’s in tip-top shape. You might even need to hire a web designer to create a fully branded, user-friendly website.

#3 YOUR EMAIL SEQUENCE IS OUT OF WHACK

Another place we like to send people off of IG is to lead magnets and freebies. In this case, you might think Instagram does the heavy lifting, but it’s actually your email sequence. Without a well-crafted funnel and promotional sequence, you probably won’t generate sales.

Check-in with the stats on your email provider to make sure things are running smoothly. If you see low open rates or click rates, it’s time to revamp your sequence. 

#4 NO URGENCY WITH YOUR LEAD

People need a reason to act. If you’re promoting offers and services, but leaving the urgency behind – it can dramatically decrease your sales on Instagram. To increase urgency, add in time-sensitive language (available until Friday), utilize scarcity (I only have two spots left), and give them a reason to act now (get ready for the new year).

#5 YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND YOUR AUDIENCE

I have so much to say about this one, woof. But I’ll keep it brief. People are quick to blame their marketing efforts (or the contractors they hire), when the truth is – they don’t know their audience. If you aren’t sure who your audience is, what they want, and their pain points, how can you effectively communicate and market to them? You can’t.

It’s time to dig into market research and really discover who your audience is.
