So, you’re tired of managing your social media account. Whether you’re looking to take something off your plate, or want to end your boxing match with the algorithm, it’s time to hand someone else the reins. But, where do you turn? Do you hire a social media manager or do you outsource to a social media agency?
If you are ready to outsource, then let’s talk about the dirty deets. Which option is right for you?
HIRING A SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
A social media manager is someone that you hire or employ to work for you. By taking someone on as an employee, there is more control. For example, you can set the employees work hours and oversee their client roster. You also have more control over their work and can request changes as often and whenever you like.
Basically, you’re the one setting the rules. (It’s giving Christian Gray vibes.)
The downside is higher overhead for you. You will need to pay them a salary and benefits. You also need to cover the cost of any tools they need to get the job done (think computers, a Canva subscription, and much more). A social media manager may also have a certain skill set. So, they could only be strong in one area or have less experience.
All in all, if you are looking for more control – this is probably the option for you!
OUTSOURCING TO A SOCIAL MEDIA AGENCY
Hiring to an agency means letting go, babe. It means trusting the process and knowing you’re passing it on to highly qualified individuals. A social media agency has experience in many areas, so you’re getting more experience and expertise. You also pay a flat monthly fee, and you’re not responsible for benefits or paying for equipment.
With an agency, you are passing off the buck and bidding them adieu. When they pop in with your final product, it’s like, “Wowza. And I didn’t have to lift a finger? 😏”
The downside with an agency is that, again, you’re letting go of control. You cannot manage an agency’s day to day routine, and communication is limited to dedicated hours (afterall, they have deadlines to meet). They are also working with other brands, which they are not required to disclose. Again, ya gotta trust that you’re in good hands!
This is perfect for people who want to hand over their social media to someone they trust – and get it off their plate entirely.
